Match Report

Match Report - 21 Mar 2009, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Saga Sports & social

Although Borden fancied their chances to take all the points in this bottom of the table clash they eventually had to settle for a share of the spoils The home side looked lively from the start and had the larger share of possession but openings were few and far between and although Borden’s height advantage caused problems in the visitors defence it was Saga who went in front after half an hour when Borden’s keeper Michael Neat failed to gather a shot and a Saga forward was presented with an easy chance to open the scoring Five minutes before the break Borden equalised when a Lee Sayer free kick was delivered deep into the box Michael Rose chipped the ball back in and Mark Barker was at hand to volley in from eight yards The second period started fairly evenly but as the home side pressed to seal the game, they exposed themselves to Saga counter attacks one of which led to Borden conceding a penalty when Nicky Fuller was adjudged to have brought down one of the visiting forwards in the box. This time Michael Neat went from villain to hero by saving the resultant kick and getting Borden off the hook The home side’s late flurry in pursuit of a winner never materialised, although when Scott Forster had a great opportunity to seal it he disappointingly shot across the face of the goal when well placed. At the final whistle Borden were left to reflect that it was a match that they should have won and it was two points were dropped rather than the one gained
