Match Report - 07 Mar 2009, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Pembury

Relegation threatened Borden edged up the table following their important win over fellow strugglers Pembury The home side forced the visitors on the defensive for long periods of the first half and after 15 minutes should have opened the scoring when Mark Barker headed wide when looked certain to score, however they got their reward after 30 mins when Chris Feliniak rose unchallenged to power in a header from Christian Marsh’s corner With Borden looking to add to their score Pembury were on the back foot, but seconds before the break they broke swiftly and equalised against the run of play Borden came out for the second half , continued to press, and forced a number of corners Mid way through the half Michael Rose took a deep corner to the far post where it was met by Nicky Fuller who headed the ball back across the box to Alan Whitehead who was well placed to nod in what turned out to be the winner Afterwards Borden’s manager Knocker Williams was delighted with the 3 points and said “We have been long overdue for a win, and it probably should have been more, but I’m not complaining, we now need to drive on from here as there are still 24 points to play for”
