Match Report - 29 Nov 2008, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with AFC Sevenoaks

With Lee Sayer unavailable, and Phil Jackson injured, manager knocker Williams had to reshuffle his defence against high fliers AFC Sevenoaks He changed the system to three at the back, and this seemed to work certainly for the first half On a cold and wet afternoon Borden looked lively from the start with Scott Forster putting his effort just wide after ten minutes Sevenoaks responded well with their own brand of football refusing to play the long ball, and opting to play the passing game despite the conditions However it was the home side that took the lead mid way through the half when Nicky Fuller’s cross was met by Alan Whitehead who nodded into the path of Jamie Kurszewski who finished from six yards Although some end to end football was played Borden went in at the break holding on to their slender lead Ten minutes into the second half it all changed when Borden’s James Beech was adjudged to have pulled down a Sevenoaks striker and the visitors equalised from the spot

This goal unsettled Borden who lost their shape for a while and Sevenoaks capitalised and went on to score a further two goals within the space of ten minutes Borden refused to rollover and with fifteen minutes remaining they were given a lifeline when substitute Tony Goold was impeded outside the box and from the resultant free kick, teenager Chris Marsh smashed the ball through the wall and into the bottom corner Five minutes later Borden got a just reward for their efforts when Tony Goold who looked lively since he came on turned swiftly in the penalty box to fire a shot past the despairing keeper and in so doing, earning a well deserved point for Borden Afterwards Knocker Williams praised his team for showing great character in pulling back a two goal deficit against a team that he described as “The best footballing side to come to Borden this season so far “
