Match Report - 11 Oct 2008, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Cannon 24

Borden lost by the odd goal in this Group A Kent Junior cup tie to a strong Cannon 24 side on Saturday Straight from the kick off the home side were out of the blocks and launched a series of attacks before Borden were able to settle Mid way through the half with Borden still struggling to impose themselves a defensive mix up by the visitors allowed the home side to take the lead with what can only be described as a soft goal Ten minutes before the break with Borden pushing forward in search of an equaliser Cannon broke swiftly and added a second

After some stern words from manager Knocker Williams at half time it was a different Borden that came out and this was evident with the number of chances that the visitors were now creating On the hour Borden reduced the arrears when Phil Jackson one of the few players on top of his game picked out Scott Forster with an inch perfect ball and the Borden striker drove the ball beyond the advancing keeper and into the bottom corner The last twenty minutes saw Borden pushing on as they realised that they could get something but despite creating a number of openings they failed to add to the scoreline

Meanwhile it was a different story with Borden Reserves who in their Group B tie won through to the next round with a fine win over Rochester & District opponents Evolution There were plenty of goals, nine in total, and with the scores level at 4- 4 extra time was needed before Jamie Kurszewski scored the all important goal, the earlier goals coming from Micky Growns 2, Kurszewski, and teenager Chris Piesely with a 25 yard rocket
