Match Report

Match Report - 04 Oct 2008, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Bredhurst Juniors

Despite Borden putting in their best performance so far this season it wasn’t enough to prevent them slipping to a 3-2 defeat at home to league leaders Bredhurst. The first half was very even with both sides creating chances but failing to convert but on the stroke of half time Borden failed to clear a corner and the visitors edged in front. After the break the home side took the initiative and on two occasions Tony Goold went close when well placed, Mid way through the half Borden scored a deserved equaliser when Chris Marsh found Scott Forster in space out wide and as he closed in on goal he drove a low shot inside the post to find the net Ten minutes later it was Borden’s turn to go in front when Bredhurst under pressure failed to clear and Marsh headed home Minutes later Bredhurst levelled again and a share of the spoils looked on the cards but with ten minutes remaining disaster struck when James Beech who hadn’t put a foot wrong all afternoon attempted to clear a difficult ball in a swirling wind only to see his header loop over the stranded keeper Charlie Donoghue to give Bredhurst the points

Afterwards manager Knocker Williams said he was most disappointed for his team who had worked so hard all afternoon and accepted that rebuilding the side takes time but was confident that with continued performances like today it would not be long before Borden secured the points required to enable them to move up the table

Meanwhile Borden Reserves who lost at home in the league last week to unbeaten Staplehurst got their revenge by knocking them out of the Divisional Cup 4 1 on their home ground thanks to a brace apiece from Dan Hudson and Jamie Kurszwewski
