Match Report - 27 Sep 2008, Borden Village FC Reserves lost to Staplehurst and Monarchs

With Borden first team without a game an unusual number of spectators turned up hoping to see the reserves inflict the first defeat on league leaders Staplehurst Borden started well applied early pressure on the visitors and created a number of good chances that should have seen them taking the lead but as the game progressed the first half turned out to be an even affair with both teams playing well and working hard Five minutes before the break Borden fell behind when they failed to deal with a corner kick and the ball fell to an unmarked player who edged the ball over the line The second half was much the same with both teams making chances but failing to convert Borden keeper Charlie Donoghue put in a man of the match peformance by denying Staplehurst with several top drawer saves. With time running out Borden moved three up front in an attempt to rescue something from the game and this nearly paid off when James Beech was put through by Dan Hudson but unfortunately his goal bound shot was brilliantly saved by the keeper. Minutes later Chris Marsh who had an excellent game in midfield beat the keeper a clever chip that grazed the top of the bar Borden seemed destined not to score and Staplehurst returned home with the points
