Match Report - 06 Sep 2008, Borden Village FC Reserves lost to Otford
After a very encouraging pre season where the reserves were unbeaten, they found Saturdays league fixture hard, and with many players missing due to holidays it was a much changed side. Borden found it hard to cope with Otfords floating man in midfield and the visitors found themselves one nil up after a mistake at the back and a lack of closing down. The Otford midfielder found the ball at his feet 25 yards out with all the time in the world, a fine long range effort on a slippery surface beat newly appointed captain Matty Ormerod in the Borden goal. Borden struggled all half but were given a life line when new signing Tony Goold, back at the club for a second spell, after a long time away found the ball at his feet 20 yards out and with a well placed shot he buried it into the bottom corner. With a mistake at the back it left the ball to drop to an Otford foot who rattled an unstoppable shot into the top corner. With some strong words at half time and the introduction of new signing Danny Maryott up front to provide the much needed pace, it brought some hope and when Danny was played through with an outstanding pass from the hard working Scamp, Danny lobbed just wide. It looked not to be Borden’s day but a long range effort dropped at the feet of Tony Goold for his second giving Borden some hope.Yet another mistake at the back and lack of closing down saw the Otford forward round a defender to go through on goal and he made no mistake in putting it away. Otford then dropped deeper to protect their lead. The introduction of Aaron Hodges still didn’t prove the killer change as otford held out to win 3-2. Borden will have to play 100% better next week at home to Lydd if they want anything out of the game.
