Match Report

Match Report - 06 Sep 2008, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Pembury

Borden had to travel to Pembury for their first match of the season and eventually settle for a share of the spoils With manager Knocker Williams away on holiday head coach Kari Creed was at the helm, but considering the number of player and management changes which took place during the close season it was an encouraging start From the outset Borden took the game to the home side and Mark Barker drove over from six yards when well placed to score Despite the swirling wind and frequent heavy showers the first twenty mins saw Borden playing good football and this coupled with some good approach work meant the Pembury defence had to defend for long periods and rely on the counter attack

After twenty five minutes Borden took the lead following a pass by Mark Green who found new signing Alan Whitehead on the edge of the box Whitehead in turn played a one two with Mark Barker and coolly slotted the ball past the home keeper to claim a goal on his debut

Borden kept the pressure on for the remainder of the half but the final delivery into the box needed to be worked on if chances were to be created

The second half was much the same and with visitors unable to kill the game off Pembury sensed they could get something and the inevitable happened with five minutes remaining Pembury fastened on to a long ball but Borden keeper Charlie Donohue who had been a spectator for the most of the game pulled off a tremendous save only to see the ball rebound out to the same player who drove the ball home the equaliser at the second attempt
