Match Report - 24 Mar 2018, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Halstead United

Borden Village booked their semi final place in the Inter Regional Challenge Cup beating Halstead by the narrowest of margins It was 4 weeks to the day that Borden last played, but showed no signs of any rustiness as straight from the kick off they took the game to the home side and after ten minutes almost took the lead but the home keeper did well keep out Lee Sayers goal bound volley. From then on play was pretty even, but the Villagers had the better of exchanges, and took the lead when Liam Baxindale found Tyrone Clements on the left who cut inside his marker drew the keeper and stroked the ball into the far corner. After the break the home side went all out in search of an equaliser but the Borden defence well marshalled by brothers Lee and Jack Sayer held firm For the remainder of the game Borden had a number of chances to add to the score line , but were denied by the home keeper who pulled off a number of outstanding saves. The semi final is now scheduled for this Saturday with Borden having to travel to Beckenham to play opponents Club Langley
