Match Report

Match Report - 24 Feb 2018, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Stansfeld O&B Club

Borden Village showed no signs of not having played for three weeks as straight from the kick off they launched an attack in which they almost took the lead but excellent goal keeping kept out a goal bound efforts from George Latham and from Dan Baverstock. Both sides tried to play football on a heavy pitch but the villagers who had the better of exchanges wasted a number of good opportunities. On the half hour the visitors broke away and Borden’s Lee Sayer could only help the ball into his own net to give Stansfeld the lead. After the break the villagers went all out in search of an equaliser and this came on the hour when Reece Jacobs crossed to the far post and Liam Baxendale was at hand to steer the ball in. The game was now in the balance but the home side looked the most likely to score and 2 minutes before time it looked as though they were going to win it when Lewis McCrory was put through on his own, but the Stansted keeper did well to block his shot to make sure his side had a share of the spoils. Next week Borden are away to Halstead in the quarterfinal of the IRCC
