Match Report - 07 Oct 2017, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Greenways
The Villagers travelled to Gravesend for their first round league cup tie and produced one of their best performances so far this season to knock out the current cup holders. Strong winds coupled with a bumpy pitch made playing conditions difficult but Borden adapted well and after 10 mins found themselves in front when Ross Frost headed home a Reece Jacobs corner. Five mins later they were 2 up when a home defender headed Ashley Baverstock’s long throw into his own net, and fifteen minutes later Lee Sayer added a third giving his side a comfortable lead before going in for the break. With the wind in their favour the second half saw Greenways launch a series of attacks in an effort to get back in it but Borden’s defence held firm and the home side could not find a way through. With ten minutes remaining Borden broke away and substitute Steve Goldsmith scored a fourth to put the issue beyond doubt and inflict on Greenways their first defeat of the season.
