Match Report

Match Report - 12 Aug 2017, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Greenways

In their opening game of the season Borden were narrowly defeated by last seasons runners up Greenways Utd.  Twenty minutes into the game they opened the scoring  giving Borden’s keeper Carl ONeill no chance with a 20 yard free kick into the top corner. With 5 players missing Borden were not at full strength and this showed as the visitors were on top for most of the first half and after the break added a second with a  deflected shot that wrong footed the keeper. Ten mins later  Borden’s Ashley Baverstock  reduced the arrears with a well taken goal but as they pushed men forward in search of an equaliser they were caught on the break and Greenways restored their two goal advantage scored a third. George Latham gave his team some hope when he planted home a firm header and although the villagers tried desperately to salvage something from the game it was the Gravesend side that returned home with the three points. Next week Borden are at home again when they entertain Staplehurst & Monarchs
