Match Report - 18 Mar 2017, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Hildenborough
Straight from the k.o. the home side went in search of goals but struggled to find a way through the visitors who set themselves up defensively leaving only 1 up front. Borden won 6 corners in as many minutes but could not get that vital breakthrough until 20 minutes in when from a long punt up field from Borden’s keeper Carl ONeill saw Ashley Baverstock use his pace to get there first and steer the ball wide of the advancing keeper. The villagers looking to add to their tally continued to attack and just before the break Baverstock was impeded in the box and Sam Brown converted the resultant kick. The second half saw the visitors become more adventurous and leaving gaps and on the hour Jay Law scored Borden’s third and ten minutes later Liam Baxindale sent Joe Sands away who scored a fourth by cutting in from the right and beating the keeper with a cross shot into the bottom corner. With minutes remaining a defender under pressure turned the ball into his own net to give the villagers a comprehensive win which could have been doubled had it not been for missed chances.
