Match Report - 18 Feb 2017, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Greenways

In front of a large crowd at Dartford on Saturday Borden made club history by winning through to the final of the KICS. Straight from the kick off they took the game to their opponents and with only 6 mins on the clock  Reiss Crimmen delivered a long throw deep into the box Ross Frost headed it on and the ball fell to Ashley Baverstock at the far post who volleyed  home to give his side an early lead. For the remainder of the half play was pretty even but Borden were denied  twice  by home keeper who made crucial saves to keep out efforts from both Baverstock and George Latham At the other end Borden’s keeper Carl ONeill did well to turn a goal bound effort away for a corner. Following the break the home side came at Borden searching for the equaliser but the villagers back four made up of Crimmen, Matt Cunningham, Ross Frost, and superbly marshalled by Ben Taylor defended resolutely against the League’s leading scorers. With ten minutes remaining and with Greenways pushing more men forward  Liam Baxindale sent Baverstock away who ran from the halfway line to calmly steer the ball past the advancing keeper to put the tie beyond doubt and secure Borden’s place in the final. Borden’s opponents in the final will be the current league leaders Punjab Utd. Next week Borden play Faversham Strike Force in the local derby ko 2.45pm
