Match Report - 04 Feb 2017, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Lydd Town Reserves
Missed chances nearly cost Borden their 5th successive league win in a game which saw 7 goals and ended up in the balance right to the end. The opening stages saw the villagers well on top creating chance after chance but a brilliant display from the Lydd keeper kept them at bay. Point blank saves from George Latham Tommy Price and Ashleigh Baverstock kept the score line level until he was finally beaten after 20 mins with a well taken goal from Matt Cunningham who both started and finished the move. On the half hour Price headed Borden’s second but before half time Lydd pulled one back against the run of play. Shortly after the break Borden were reduced to ten men when Price received a red card but sub Steve Goldsmith looked to have made it safe by scoring Borden’s third. With ten mins remaining slack defending saw Lydd claim their second but with only 5 mins remaining Ben Taylor was adjudged to have made a late challenge and the referee pointed to the spot . Borden’s keeper Carl O’Neill was given no chance with the penalty and a draw now looked certain but in time added Sam Brown delivered a free kick deep into the box and Ben Taylor climbed high to make amends and head home a superb winner.
