Match Report - 07 Jan 2017, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Staplehurst & Monarchs

The villagers started the new year in fine style with a comprehensive win over visitors Staplehurst. Straight from the kick off the home side took the game to their opponents and looking for an early goal were rewarded after 10 mins when George Latham finished well from perfectly weighted pass from Tommy Price. Five minutes later Latham scored again this time Ashleigh Baverstock being the provider. With the visitors offering little resistance Borden capitalised and Scott Forster made it 3 with a fine shot into the bottom corner. Staplehurst were in disarray and just before the break Latham scored again to complete his hat trick. The second half saw the home side dominate and when they were awarded a penalty  Sam Brown stepped up to score Borden’s fifth. Shortly after the visitors scored a consolation goal but with fifteen minutes remaining Latham scored his fourth bringing his seasons tally to 15. With ten minutes remaining Borden’s Jack Brown claimed the goal of the match by volleying in from the edge of the box and in so doing keeping his side in touch with the league leaders. Next week Borden are away to bottom of the table Guru Nanack.
