Match Report - 12 Nov 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Fleetdown United
For the second successive week the villagers lost by the odd goal having once again given away a two goal advantage. Play was pretty even in the opening stages but the home side looked the more likely to score and having forced a number of corners without scoring it was the visitors who took the lead when they broke away to score a well worked goal. Ten minutes later and on the half hour Borden levelled the score after Fleetdown were penalised for a handball in the box and Sam Brown stepped to send the keeper the wrong way and just before half time the same player put his side in front when he fastened on to a loose ball to lash home from 20 yards. Shortly after the break Borden lost Ben Taylor who was taken to hospital suffering an eye injury and had to reorganise but managed to go further ahead when Dan Hudson scored having been set up by George Latham. However having lost their leader the villagers did not look comfortable in defence and ten minutes were punished when Fleetdown scored their second. Minutes later they once again failed to clear their lines and the visitors were gifted an equaliser. Fleetdown could now sense victory and with 5 mins remaining a swift break down the left saw the Borden concede a fourth. On the stroke of time the villagers were thrown a lifeline when they were awarded a second penalty but this time Sam Brown blazed high and wide and it was the visitors who claimed the 3 points. Next week Borden entertain Faversham Strike Force in the local derby with a 2pm ko.
