Match Report - 03 Dec 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat New Romney
New Romney who had only lost 1 game in all competitions this season and are looking for promotion to the Premier Division proved to be stiff opposition against the Villagers in this quarterfinal round of the KICS. The opening stages saw the home side have the better of exchanges and took the lead on the half hour with a brilliant individual goal from Joe Sands who beat three defenders before slotting the ball past the advancing keeper. But ten minutes before the break New Romney carved out an equaliser after they were allowed too much space in the box and were able to beat Borden’s keeper Charlie Donoghue with a low shot into the bottom corner. The second half saw the villagers take the game to their opponents who were forced to defend for long periods but on the hour Borden took the lead for the second time when New Romney failed to clear a Sam Brown corner and Liam Baxindale scored from close range. Sands put the issue beyond doubt when he scored again with ten minutes left, but with seconds remaining and the referee just about to call time the visitors scored again to give the game a slightly flattering score line. Borden must wait until the New year to see who they face in the semi-finals and on Saturday they return to Premier League action when they are at hme to Erith 147 ko 2pm.
