Match Report - 19 Nov 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Faversham Strikeforce
For the third week in succession the Villagers have let a 2 goal advantage slip and this time it was to local rivals Faversham Strike Force Straight from the kick off Borden took the game to their opponents with George Latham and Ashleigh Baverstock testing the keeper and they deserved to take the lead after 15 minutes when Faversham failed to clear Joe Sands corner and Paul Teague saw his shot loop over the keeper and into the net. For the remainder of the half the villagers had the lions share of possession but resilient defending by the league champions kept the home team from adding to the score line. Five mins after the break Borden went further ahead when Ben Taylor’s header fell nicely for George Latham to fire in from 6 yards. Borden were now in the driving seat and enjoying the lions share of possession until defender Matt Cunningham was harshly penalised for a handball and the visitors were awarded a penalty. Borden’s keeper Charlie Donoghue parried the spot kick but Faversham were the first to react to sweep home the rebound. With fifteen minutes remaining and against the run of play the visitors broke swiftly and scored an equaliser. With the seconds ticking away Borden very nearly scored the winner when Joe Sands broke clear rounded the keeper only to see his shot roll agonisingly wide of the post and the villagers had to settle for the draw.
