Match Report - 05 Nov 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Staplehurst & Monarchs
Borden failed to make the semi finals of the Inter Regional Challenge Cup edged out by a last minute goal scored by the hosts Staplehurst. In a closely contested game, and with just fifteen minutes gone it was the villagers who having won a corner on the right took the lead when Ben Taylor’s downward header was swept home by George Latham. Ten minutes later Borden increased their lead when Joe Sands broke through to beat the keeper with a fierce drive from the edge of the box. Ten minutes later the villagers allowed Staplehurst to get back in the game by conceding a soft penalty which the home side duly converted. Two minutes before the break Borden failed to clear their lines following a corner and Staplehurst levelled the scoreline. The second period saw Borden create ample opportunities to score and both Ashley Baverstock and Latham failed to capitalise when well placed but in time added and with seconds remaining the home side made the most of a defensive mix up to score the winner and take their place in the semi finals.
