Match Report - 29 Oct 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Bexley

Bexley beaten by the villagers the previous week got their revenge on Saturday with a 2 nil win with both their goals coming from penalties. From the start the home side never allowed the villagers time on the ball by closing them down and then relying on the break Throughout the first period Borden were unable to create any real openings as the home side kept them under pressure with long balls which resulted in keeping the Borden defence busy. Ten minutes before the break Borden failed to clear from a corner and conceded a penalty when Ross Frost clearly handled a goal bound shot. Frost immediately received a red card and the visitors were reduced to ten men and Bexley converted the kick. The second half was much the same and although the ten men battled away chances for both sides were few and far between. With fifteen minutes remaining Ben Taylor made an innocuous challenge on the edge of the box and to everyone’s surprise including the opposition the referee pointed to the spot. Borden’s keeper Charlie Donoghue was given no chance with the resultant kick and Bexley went on to claim the three points. Next week the villagers travel to Staplehurst to compete in the quarter finals of the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup
