Match Report - 22 Oct 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Bexley
On Saturday a win at Bexley saw Borden secure a place into the Quarter Finals of the Kent Intermediate Charity Shield The villagers started well but found difficulty breaking down a well organised home defence Borden looked the more likely to score with Joe Sands and Ashleigh Baverstock both having goal bound efforts saved by the home keeper. In turn the home side relied on the break and ‘ keeper Carl ONeill produced a fine save to keep the scores level at the break. Ten minutes into the second period Borden broke the deadlock when a Ben Taylor header found Joe Sands on the right and his sheer pace took him past his defender and he cut inside to finish with a fierce shot that the home keeper could only parry and Ashleigh Baverstock was at hand to finish with his eighth goal of the season. Borden were now in the driving seat and despite carving out more openings failed to increase the score. With fifteen minutes remaining Borden were awarded a penalty but Baverstock saw his penalty saved by the keeper and the villagers had to be content with the narrowest of wins they return to Bexley next week to fulfil a league fixture.
