Match Report - 24 Sep 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Farnborough OB Guild
The villagers tasted defeat for the first time this season at the hands of last seasons Division 1 champions Farnborough O B. Borden took the lead as early as the 5th minute when Ashley Baverstock fastened on to a long clearance to lob their keeper from 20 yards. The goal did not seem unsettle the visitors who came back strongly and when the home side conceded a corner they levelled with a near post header. Borden struggled to get on the ball and play the flowing football they are capable of, but were unable to find a way through a well organised defence. Borden’s new signing Reiss Crimmen caused major problems to the visitors defence with his long throws but each time the ball was scrambled away to safety and villagers failed to capitalise. Just before the break the visitors broke swiftly and scored on the counter attack to edge in front. For the majority of the second half the home side had the lions share of possession but lacked any real urgency in their play and the visitors who played as a disciplined unit throughout kept Borden at bay. With ten minutes remaining and the home side pushing men forward Farnborough broke again to score a well worked goal and take the three points.
