Match Report - 17 Sep 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Erith 147 Sports

Borden won their way through to the 2nd round of the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield with a comprehensive victory at Erith on Saturday. The villagers unbeaten after 6 games are flying at the moment and within 1 minute of the kick off took an early lead when Joe Sands first time cross was turned past the home keeper by his own defender. Despite Borden carving out a number of scoring opportunities it was Erith who suddenly equalised against the run of play with a speculative 40 yard lob that sailed over Borden’s keeper Karl O’Neill’s head, took a bounce hit the underside of the crossbar and ended up in the net. Before long the villagers regained the lead when Erith’s keeper failed to hold an Ashley Haverstock shot which squirmed out of his hands and rolled over the line. Following the break Borden took charge and went further ahead when Sam Brown drove home a loose ball from 20 yards and shortly after Joe Sands made it 4 with a fine run drawing the keeper and finishing well. With 15 mins remaining a lapse in concentration saw Borden concede a soft goal before Sands wrapped it up with his 2nd and Borden’s 5th. This Saturday the villagers return to League action when they are at home to Farnborough OB Guild 2.45 ko
