Match Report - 10 Sep 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Stansfeld O&B Club
Borden Village had to settle for a share of the spoils on Saturday against a hard working and determined Stansfeld side. In the opening stages the home side never really got into their stride and failed to carve out many openings against a resolute defence. After 20 mins Borden took the lead when George Latham broke away but was pulled back by a Stansfeld defender who was shown a red card reducing his side to ten men and from the resultant free kick Sam Brown’s superb 25 yarder found the top corner with the keeper rooted to the spot. Stansfeld came back strongly and levelled 10 mins before the break with a well worked goal. Ten minutes into the second half it was the villagers who were down to ten men when Joe Sands received a second yellow. Midway through the half Borden found themselves behind for the first time this season when a defensive mistake allowed Stansfeld to take the lead. Borden lifted their game and within 10 minutes the scores were level again when Liam Baxindale crossed for Tommy Price to finish at the far post. The villagers went all out in search of a winner and with debut man Ollie Brown signed in mid week from Whitstable Town beginning to pull the strings in mid field the villagers looked the most likely to score and almost did with minutes remaining they were denied the three points when Ben Taylor’s goal bound header cannoned off the keeper onto a post and rebounded to safety. Despite gaining only a point the Villagers remain top of the Premier League and have a break from league duty next week when they travel to Erith 147 to compete in the KICS.
