Match Report - 13 Aug 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Greenways
After taking a year out manager Aaron Hodges has returned to the club to rejoin Nick Brown in the hope that the Villagers will challenge for major honours. Pre season games have seen the new squad unbeaten and they put their marker down in the opening game of the season with a comprehensive win over visitors Greenways. Straight from the off Borden attacked strongly putting their opponents under pressure and giving them little opportunity to settle and play their game. After 6 mins they took the lead when the Greenways keeper took too much time on the ball and Jay Law pounced to force the ball home. Greenways came back in search of an equaliser and the home side were lucky when a header from a free kick hit the upright and bounced to safety with Bordens keeper Charlie Donoghue rooted to the spot. Just before the break Borden increased their lead when the referee pointed to the spot after George Latham was pushed and the same player stepped up to plant the ball in the bottom corner and put his side two up. After the break the villagers began to get on top and Jay law scored his second with a clever turn in the box beating the keeper at the far post. With ten minutes remaining the match was put beyond all doubt when Ashley Baverstock was put through to round the keeper and slot home for Borden’s fourth.
