Match Report - 13 Feb 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Faversham Strikeforce
Faversham’s title challenge was put on hold by the Borden in this closely contested local derby. In the opening stages the villagers edged the better of exchanges but as the game went on Faversham began to test the away defence by setting up a number of counter attacks but found it difficult to penetrate a resolute Borden defence. After 30 mins Borden’s Ashley Baverstock fired in a fierce drive but brother Ricky keeping goal for Faversham was equal to it. For the remainder of the half play was pretty even and both sides went in level at the break. On the hour the deadlock was broken when Sam Brown sent Joe Sands away his pace outstripped his marker and chipped the onrushing keeper scoring a quality goal. Strike Force set out in search of an equaliser but Borden broke away and almost added a second when Latham’s shot was blocked on the line, however with 10 mins remaining Faversham carved out an equaliser when Charlie Donoghue was beaten by a superb shot from the edge of the box At the final whistle both teams deserved a share of the points and on the balance of play a draw was a fair result. Borden’s captain Sam Brown led by example and bossed the midfield but was ably supported by Ross Frost and Matt Cunningham all of whom had outstanding games.
