Match Report - 30 Jan 2016, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Erith 147 Sports
The villagers came away from high flying Erith on Saturday with a well deserved point. Both teams struggled to play good football on a difficult pitch but play was pretty even in the first half with chances between the teams few and far between and both sides went in level at the break. The second half was much the same and as the home side showed signs of tiring it was the villagers who looked the most likely to score. On the hour Borden conceded a penalty when a forward was adjudged to have been pushed which the home side gratefully accepted and planted the ball wide of Charlie Donoghue to take the lead. With the clock ticking away Borden sensed they could still get something as they put the home side on the back foot, and with ten mins remaining they themselves were warded a penalty for hand ball. Up stepped Sam Brown to send the keeper the wrong way to put his side level. The last ten minutes saw Borden the most likely to score but a draw was a fair result in a game where Borden’s Aiden Jewiss in the centre of defence was outstanding.
