Match Report - 05 Dec 2015, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Fleetdown United
When last seasons captain Ben Taylor learnt of Borden’s comprehensive defeat the previous week he decided to come out of retirement to offer his services and with Ross Frost slotting in along side him their presence was enough to see the villagers keep a clean sheet. Early in the game Taylor himself almost got on the score sheet when the visitors failed to clear their lines from a corner and he fastened on to a loose ball only to see his shot cannon off the upright and back into play with the keeper well beaten. The strong and at times gale force wind made playing conditions extremely difficult for both sides and chances were few and far between and with the defences dominating neither team created any clear cut chances during the first period.. The second half saw the home side battling against the wind but they looked the more dangerous on the break and on the hour they were denied again by the woodwork when Joe Sands broke down the right and his cross was met by Paul Teague whose powerful header crashed against the bar and was scrambled to safety. Fleetdown rarely troubled Borden but despite the efforts of the home side the game ended goal less with the visitors slightly fortunate to return with a share of the spoils.
