Match Report - 19 Dec 2015, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Kennington
Borden move through to the quarterfinals of the Maidstone & District Charity Cup ( Senior Section ) with a well deserved victory against Kent County Premier side Kennington. Straight from the kick off the villagers pressed their opponents but were unable to create any clear cut chances, the home side broke the deadlock after 20mins thanks to Tom Bullocks unstoppable 25 yarder which powered in off the underside of the crossbar with the keeper well beaten. The visitors came back strongly and on more than one occasion threatened the home side and on the half hour were rewarded by playing a clever one two to open the Borden defence and steer the ball Past Charlie Donoghue. Just before the break George Latham lost his marker and planted the ball firmly in the bottom corner to give Borden a half time lead. The second half saw the villagers look to increase their lead and mid way through the half Latham flicked on a long throw and Borden’s Liam Newton climbed at the far post to head home. Ten minutes later a move involving Sam Brown, Scott Forster, and Nicky Fuller saw Paul Teague through with only the keeper to beat which he did to put the issue beyond doubt. The quarterfinal draw will see Borden play host to fellow Premier side Staplehurst Monarchs for a place in the semi finals.
