Match Report - 31 Oct 2015, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Erith 147 Sports
Borden entertained league leaders Erith 147 on Saturday and came out on top to take away their unbeaten league record. Due to injuries and work commitments the villagers were forced to make 6 changes to the team that beat Faversham Strike Force the previous week but those brought in by Manager Nick Brown acquitted themselves well. Borden started well by taking the game to their opponents but found it difficult to penetrate a defence that had conceded only 2 league goals all season. As the game went on Erith who had started slowly began to get a grip on the mid field but they themselves found it difficult to break down a stubborn home defence. Ten minutes before the break Borden took the lead when young Jacob Lake was put through and was brought down by the onrushing keeper for a clear penalty. Up stepped George Latham to send the keeper the wrong way to give his side a well deserved lead. Following the break the visitors determined to get something out of the game stepped up a gear but the Borden central defence pairing of Matt Cunningham and Aiden Jewiss were outstanding, and when they did break through keeper Charlie Donoghue bravely saved at least two goal bound efforts. With ten minutes remaining and with Erith pushing men forward the villagers found some space down the left this time Lake cut into the box and unselfishly set up Latham to hammer home from the six yard box and seal the victory that the villagers thoroughly deserved.
