Match Report - 24 Oct 2015, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Fabversham Strike Force
Borden Village claimed the bragging rights over local rivals Faversham Strike Force with the narrowest of victories. A number of supporters from both sides added to the atmosphere in this closely contested match where the home side had the better of exchanges in the opening stages but both defences proved to be on top of their game with chances for either side being few and far between. Borden forced a number of corners but were unable to capitalise and then with half an hour gone the breakthrough came when Sam Brown spread the ball wide to Joe Sands and the speedy winger left his marker trailing and delivered a quality cross into the 6 yard box for the inrushing George Latham to volley into the roof of the net. Minutes before the break the visitors were reduced to ten men when Jack Sayer received a second yellow. The second half saw the visitors defending for long periods but Borden were unable to add to the score line With fifteen minutes remaining Faversham were reduced to nine men again for a second yellow offence and although Borden dominated they failed to score again and with minutes ticking away had to thank keeper Charlie Donoghue who made a magnificent save from a goal bound effort to give Borden the points and at the same time ending the visitors unbeaten league record.
