Match Report - 10 Jan 2015, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Holland Sports
The Villagers travelled to Surrey on Saturday and following a pitch inspection an hour before the kick off by the referee deemed it playable. From the start Borden found it difficult to play football on a difficult and waterlogged surface, and made it more difficult when after an altercation Jay Law was shown a red card somewhat harshly when everyone else expected a yellow. Ten minutes later a Sam Brown back pass was intercepted and this let in the Home team striker to slot the ball past Charlie Donoghue. But it proved to be a game of two halves as Borden came out after the break determined to show some fight and get back into the game. On 55 mins Man of the Match Liam Baxindale was rewarded with a fine goal after some good work by Scott Forster and Borden were up and running. With both teams now level there was no quarter given by either side and the game seemed to explode into action as Forster began to run the home defence ragged and from one of his crosses Ross Frost gave ten man Borden the lead. The home side refused to give up and pressed at every opportunity but Borden’s back four Michael Green, Lewis Rivet ,Tom Green, and ably marshalled by Ben Taylor held firm and the villagers returned home with 3 valuable points.
