Match Report - 20 Dec 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Fleetdown United
Borden climb up to eighth position in the league table following a comprehensive win over visitors Fleetdown. The villagers started brightly and took the game to Fleetwood and after 15 mins went ahead when Paul Teague was impeded just outside the box and with a superbly taken free kick Sam Brown planted the ball firmly into the top corner. On a difficult surface the visitors rarely troubled Borden who in turn adapted well to the heavy pitch playing the ball down the flanks and creating a number of chances. On the half hour a long kick from keeper Charlie Donoghue created problems with its bounce and Borden’s striker George Latham was first to pounce and drive the ball past the advancing keeper. Shortly before the break Borden scored again when Liam Baxindale cut in from the right and watched as his shot his shot spun through the keepers hands and roll into the net. Ten minutes after the restart George Latham scored his second and Borden’s fourth the game was now all but over. With ten minutes left Steve Goldsmith scored a fifth for the villagers with a delightful chip but in the minutes remaining the visitors who refused to give up managed to head home a consolation goal.
