Match Report - 22 Nov 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Fleetdown United
Borden travelled to Dartford on Saturday and came away with 3 valuable points in their efforts to climb the table. In the opening stages the villagers adapted themselves well on a wet but reasonable playing surface with the home side having to defend for long periods but who in turn looked dangerous on the break. After 20 mins Borden won a corner on the right Dan Hudson delivered into the near post where George Latham was at hand to cleverly flick the ball inside the near post to put give his team the lead. Fleetdown set up a number of counter attacks but any real danger was ably dealt with by the centre back pairing of Lewis Rivett and Ben Taylor. Ten minutes before the break the villagers increased their lead when Taylor’s goal bound header was parried by the keeper and scrambled away but the ball only came out as far as Sam Brown who crossed to the far post and Ross Frost climbed the highest to powerfully head home. The second half saw the home side try and raise their game but Borden were playing good football and kept their shape. Mid way through the half Fleetdown were reduced to ten men for a second book able offence and within minutes pulled a goal back when the villagers failed to clear and the ball cannoned in off Taylor for an unfortunate own goal. Unlike other weeks Borden were determined this time not to let the game slip and with ten minutes remaining a clever exchange of passes between Latham and Brown saw the latter fire in a stinging drive from the edge of the box to put the result beyond doubt.
