Match Report - 08 Nov 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Stansfeld O&B Club
The villagers travelled to South London on Saturday to face 3rd placed Stansfeld OB who are the only unbeaten side in the Premier Division. In the opening stages play was pretty even with the home side edging it in terms of chances and on the half hour Stansfeld broke the deadlock when prolific striker Billy Shinners put his side in front with a fierce drive from the edge of the box. Following the break Borden came out in search of an equaliser which saw the home side resorting to some desperate defending Sam Brown was denied when his 25 yarder cannoned against the post and rebounded to safety with the keeper well beaten. On the hour the villagers scored a deserved equaliser with some clever football down the right involving Tom Green Paul Teague and Steven Goldsmith who delivered into the box where substitute George Latham was first to react and fired into the bottom corner for a superbly taken goal. The last fifteen minutes was heart stopping for both clubs with Latham nearly adding a second to his tally and Borden’s Captain Michael Green heading off the line in the dying seconds to make sure both sides shared the spoils and making Borden the league draw specialists. Afterwards Borden’s joint managers Aaron Hodges and Nick Brown agreed that although the team are still finding their feet a this level, if the draws can be turned into wins Borden will climb the table.
