Match Report - 18 Oct 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Kennington

Borden the current holders travelled to Ashford on Saturday in defence of their trophy. In the opening stages there was little to choose between the sides as both teams struggled to create any clear cut chances the home side elected to play the long ball with the villagers opting for the passing game. Borden had the better of exchanges but neither side could find the net in the first period. 10 mins into the second half the villagers found themselves a goal down when they failed to clear their lines and the visitors immediately upped their game. Within 5 mins they won a corner and Ben Taylor headed home to level the scores. Midway through the half Paul Teague cut into the box and a late tackle saw the referee point to the spot. Teague saw his first effort saved but followed up to put his side in front. With ten mins remaining the visitors conceded a free kick outside the box and the home side equalised with deceptive shot the crept inside the far post with everyone stood watching. Extra time saw Borden looking the stronger and substitute Steve Goldsmith put the villagers ahead again when the keeper blocked his first effort he composed himself and scored with a delightful chip into the top corner. With time running out George Latham made it 4 with a powerful drive from the edge of the area putting his side into the quarter finals with a tie against local rivals Sittingbourne Community College
