Match Report - 20 Sep 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Metrogas
Borden Village suffered a comprehensive defeat at the hands of the current Premier League Champions Metrogas. After only 4 mins the villagers were a goal down when their keeper Luke Titshall attempted a clearance which fell straight to the feet of a Metrogas player who gratefully accepted the gift to give his side the lead. 5 mins later disaster struck when Borden’s Steve Collar was harshly penalised for a last ditch tackle and the referee pointed to the spot. Collar was shown the red card and Borden were reduced to ten men as the home converted the resultant kick. The villagers were now struggling to find any composure and minutes later Metrogas struck again, and that goal in effect killed the game by putting paid to any chance that Borden had in terms of salvaging something The game now was almost all over and worse was to come after 20 mins when Borden’s Jay Law had to be replaced due to a knee injury. More bad luck was to follow when minutes later Daniel Swann was carried off with a suspected shoulder dislocation. Metrogas took full advantage of Borden’s misfortune and added a fourth before the break.
The second half saw the Champions dominate and the villagers for long periods were put on the back foot .The home side added two more and with ten mins remaining they scored again. Borden never gave up and defended for long periods but on the stroke of time were found out again as the home side scored their final goal, and in so doing inflicted upon them their heaviest defeat for over three years.
