Match Report - 06 Sep 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Snodland Town

Borden travelled to Snodland on Saturday in search of their first win, but it was the home side who came out on top inflicting upon the villagers their first league defeat of the season. In the opening stages Borden took a while to settle but had the better of exchanges and looked the most likely to score. After 15mins with Borden pressing the home side launched their first counter attack and Steve Collar made a last ditch tackle only to see the referee point to the spot much to the surprise of players and spectators alike. From the resultant kick Snodland missed the target, but the danger signs from the home side were there for all to see. Within minutes Snodland broke swiftly crossed to the back post where they had a free man to hammer home a well taken goal. For the remainder of the half Borden tried hard to prise open the home defence but were unable to penetrate and create any clear cut chances. The second half was much the same with Borden desperately trying to get an equaliser but mid way through they conceded a free kick just outside the box and were punished as Snodland fired the ball over the wall and into the net to put themselves firmly in the driving seat. With 5 mins remaining and Borden pushing on Snodland grabbed a third and there was no coming back. Next week Borden are away again to last years division 1 champions Guru Nanack
