Match Report - 30 Aug 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Greenways
The Villagers travelled to Gravesend on Saturday in search of their first win in the Premier Division and came away with a share of the spoils. From the start play was pretty even with both sides trying to play football on a difficult surface but scoring chances were limited. The home side played possession football but any serious threats were dealt with by the Borden centre backs Steve Collar and Ross Frost who was outstanding throughout. After 20 mins Jay Law cut into the box and was brought down with a late challenge and the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Sam Brown to send the keeper the wrong way and score his second penalty in successive weeks. After the break the home side seemed to step up a gear and for long periods Borden were on the defensive and with 10 mins remaining they in turn were rewarded with a penalty when Tom Green was penalised for a late challenge. Greenways levelled from the spot and seemed content to see out the draw. Borden sensed this and launched a series of attacks and in the dying seconds thought they had won it but the home keeper denied the villagers by pulling off two outstanding saves firstly from Liam Baxindales goal bound shot and then again from Sam Brown who was following up The whistle went and with the scores still level both the teams and spectators accepted that a draw was a fair result.
