Match Report - 23 Aug 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Stansfeld O&B Club
Borden Village made history on Saturday by winning their first ever Premier Division league point , although the general feeling from both players and supporters that it was 2 points lost rather than 1 gained. The home side took a while to settle but in general took the game to their opponents with Paul Teague Liam Baxindale and Sam Brown pulling the strings in midfield. Borden created several half chances but the visitors defended resolutely using the long ball tactic to launch counter attacks. Ten minutes before the break Jay Law broke away but a blatant push sent him sprawling and the referee showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Up stepped Sam Brown to plant the ball in the bottom corner scoring Borden’s first ever Premier League goal. The second half still saw the home team having the better of exchanges with Stansfeld content to defend in numbers and continue their long ball game. With 20 mins left the visitors were reduced to ten men with a player being dismissed for dissent, and it looked that Borden may be able to capitalise. However with 7 mins remaining Stansfeld launched the ball forward again and won a throw in near the corner. From the resulting long throw the home side failed to clear their lines and Stansfeld scrambled an equaliser. In the dying minutes both Teague and Baxindale went close but in the end Borden had to settle for the draw. Next week Borden are way to Greenways.
