Match Report - 01 May 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Coney Hall
Borden were the first to settle during the opening stages of this final and began to look threatening they forced a number of corners and from one of these Ross Frost looked to have scored with a powerful goal bound header but somehow the Colney Hall keeper got a hand to it and parried it away. Colney were under intense pressure but held firm preferring to rely on the long ball to get tem out of trouble. On the half hour Colney launched a long clearance up field and it fell nicely into the path of one of their forwards who drove the ball firmly into the bottom corner to give his side the lead against the run of play. The second half saw Borden go out in search of an equaliser Sam Brown grazed the crossbar, Ashley Baverstock found some space only to see his shot go inches wide. 15 mins from time Borden were reduced to ten men when Tommy Price was given his marching orders, and it then became an uphill struggle. Even then Borden kept pressing but stout defending allowed Colney Hall to hold out to the final whistle leaving Borden to reflect on their missed chances.
