Match Report - 15 Apr 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Lydd Town
Three games in a week has seen Borden retain the Weald of Kent Charity Shield. Following their league win against Otford last Saturday Borden travelled all the way to Lydd on Tuesday evening to face their opponents in the WKCC. Lydd Town currently riding high in the Kent Invicta League looked to be formidable opponents but straight from the kick off Borden attacked strongly and scored within the 3 mins when Paul Teague found some space to rifle home into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Ten minutes later the same player unleashed a 25yarder that crashed against the underside of the bar and rebounded into play with the home keeper well beaten. On the half hour a handball in the box saw Lydd back on level terms from the resultant penalty and both teams went in at the break on level terms. The second half saw Lydd set off in search of a winner but resolute defending by Steve Collar and Mark Greene kept them at bay. Borden looked dangerous on the counter attack and could have increases their lead but with 15 mins remaining it was their turn to win a penalty and up stepped Sam Brown to drive home to send Borden into the final.
