Match Report - 12 Apr 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Otford
Straight from the kick off Borden established territorial advantage over their opponents and should have took the lead in the opening minutes but Steve Collars goal bound header was well saved by the Otford keeper. After 10 mins Otford broke swiftly down the left and as the ball was crossed into the penalty area Otford got the first touch with a neat chip over the advancing Luke Titshall to take the lead against the run of play. Borden set out in search of an equaliser and began to dominate the home side created a number of chances but failed to capitalise. Ten minutes before the break Borden won a free kick just inside their own half Keeper Luke Titshall delivered a ball deep into the box Tommy Price headed back across the goal and Dan Hudson was well placed to score with a diving header. The second half belonged to Borden and it was only some desperate defending by the visitors that kept the home side at bay but on the hour Borden won a penalty after a blatant hand ball. Up stepped Paul Teague only to see his shot well saved but Tommy Price pounced on to the rebound to slot the ball home. With 10 mins remaining Borden put the issue beyond doubt when Liam Baxindale threaded the ball through Otfords defence George Latham found himself on a 50/50 with the keeper and as both players collided the ball spun loose but Latham was the quickest to react by scrambling to his feet and rolling the ball into an empty net. Borden next match will be away fro home on Tuesday evening in the semi-final of the Weald of Kent Challenge shield of which they are they are currently the holders. They face stiff opposition from Lydd Town who are currently second in the Kent Invicta League.
