Match Report - 15 Mar 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat APM Contrast
The villagers claimed yet another Premier scalp by defeating high flying APM in the quarter final of the Bill Manklow Inter-Regional Challenge Cup scoring 2 goals without reply. Borden made a confident start and the home team were not given any time on the ball as the villagers pressed high up the pitch with full backs Michael Green and Tom Green heavily involved and it took an excellent save from the home keeper to deny Ashley Baverstock’s goal bound volley During the opening stages Borden had the lions share of possession but despite some promising approach play APM managed to hold out. The breakthrough came mid way through the half when Bordens keeper Luke Titshall threw out to Baverstock who in turn sent Ross Frost away on a strong surging run and his first time cross found Joe Sands in the six yard box who hammered home with a sweet half volley. APM offered little and only threatened once with a direct free kick which Titshall competently dealt with. Following the break Borden continued where they left off and in the 69th minute Latham saw his shot hit the foot of the post and APM managed to scramble it away. With 15mins remaining Joe Sands sheer pace took him past the home defence and this time he turned provider for Latham who tucked the ball away from close range. The visitors finished strongly almost scoring a third earning a well deserved win and a place in the semi-finals their opponents being Stansfield O B.
