Match Report - 08 Mar 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Holland & Blair Reserves
After only eighteen mins Borden looked to be in trouble when they were reduced to tem men after Daniel Swann’s late challenge resulted in him being shown a straight red. The visitors took advantage and began to take the game to the home side and a few mins later Borden’s keeper Luke Titshall made a tremendous one handed save to deny the visitors taking the lead. The home side battled bravely to contain a lively Holland & Blair side and on the counter attack took the lead when George Latham beat the keeper at the near post .Following the break the visitors went out in search of an equaliser and this came when Borden failed to deal with a corner and scored from close range. Holland & Blair sensed victory strong defending by Mark Green and Ross Frost kept the opposition at bay. Mid way through the half H & B took the lead and with the ten men beginning to tire the visitors began to look the most likely to claim the points. Borden rallied again and with ten mins remaining Latham scored again. The home team then felt they could snatch it and three minutes later Latham thought he had only to see his goal ruled out for offside. The visitors were now having to defend and with seconds remaining he was again denied his hat trick when his stinging drive hit the foot of the post and rebounded to safety. There was no further chances as the whistle went and Borden had to settle for a well deserved draw.
