Match Report - 15 Feb 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI v Otford United match cancelled

Borden desperate to catch up on their fixtures hired the 3G pitch at SCC to entertain Otford Utd. Borden desperate to avenge their defeat against Otford earlier in the season put the visitors under pressure from the start but within 15 mins the heavens opened up and a mixture of rain hail and high winds saw both teams battling in atrocious conditions. Otford were proving difficult to break down but on the half hour Borden new signing Joe Sands won a corner which Dan Hudson delivered and Ben Taylor climbed the highest to powerfully head home. Within 3 mins Otford levelled against the run of play with a breakaway goal when Borden failed to close down but with conditions worsening and minutes before the break Sam Brown and Paul Teague combined set up George Latham who hammered home from the edge of the box. At half time the referee consulted with players and officials as whether the game should continue and as the rain had stopped and some blue sky became visible the decision was made to continue. Within 10 mins of the restart Borden scored again when Latham got his second but within 5 mins torrential rain and hail became relentless and with surface water settling on top of the 3G surface the referee decided to abandon with 63 mins of the game being played.
