Match Report - 04 Jan 2014, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Kennington
Borden the current holders took a step towards retaining their trophy by winning a place in the semi- finals following a match played in appalling conditions at the Julie Rose stadium on Saturday. Both teams found difficulty in trying to pay football in high winds and driving rain but it was the home side who went in front after 20mins . Even so play was pretty even and on the half hour Borden’s equaliser came by courtesy of Dan Hudson who struck a 20 yard volley which crashed in via the underside of the bar. Ten minutes later Kennington played a clever one two and Borden’s keeper Luke Titshall stood no chance as Kennington scored from 6 yards. Borden’s management team of Nick Brown and Aaron Hodges had some strong words to say at half time and straight from the whistle it was a different Borden who took the game to the home side in search of an equaliser. This came mid way through the half when Borden won a corner Kennington could only clear the ball to the edge of the box and Ben Taylor drove the ball into the bottom corner. Borden were now getting on top and created a number of chances but failed to convert Ross Frost went narrowly wide and Billy Graham headed straight into the keepers arms when well placed. In extra time both sides had chances to grab the winner but tired legs and atrocious conditions were taking their toll and the game eventually had to be decided by penalties Borden came out winners by 4 goals to 2 Borden’s scorers were Ross Frost Mark Green Ben Taylor and Jamie Baverstock.
