Match Report - 02 Nov 2013, Borden Village FC Reserves beat Kennington Reserves

After the draw against the same opposition the week before we went
away to the wonderful setting of the Julie Rose Athletics stadium to face
an in form Kennington side. The pitch was in good shape and we started
well moving the ball around the deck pulling spaces in midfield and the
channels. With Sills looking to end his 2 game spell without a goal, he
had a great chance early on and instead of squaring for an easy tap in,
decided to rifle the shot forcing the keeper into a save. It wasn't long
though before he got the chance to get up and running again after some
excellent play down the right from the returning Baker allowing Paul Teague to stride through the defence forcing the keeper into a
great save but fortunately it fell to Sills to hammer the ball home to put
us 1-0 up. We was really dominating at this point with Ward and Baker
working the wings well and Kemsley & Teague dictating play in the
middle. Then the next chance came after Sills had finally taken my
advice and in holding the ball up was grappled to the floor to give us a
free kick just outside the box. This had Kemsley written all over it and he
didn't disappoint, drilling the ball low and hard across goal to nestle into
the far corner to put us 2-0 up. The half continued with Borden keeping
the ball well and the exquisite Sandy and stand in centre back Rogers
marshalling any chances the opponents created.
Half Time: 0-2
The weather wasn't looking good for the second half with black clouds
circling and maybe this changed us as I couldn't put my finger on again
why after being in front we sat back, relax and allow the opposition back
into the game. The passing and possession was scrappy and when we
was awarded a free kick 35-40 yards out nobody thought Kemsley would
attempt an extraordinary shot at goal but oh my did he! Kemsley hit the
ball with such venom it looked like a torpedo flying through the air. The
ball just flew straight into the side of the goal nearly ripping through the
net. This put us 3-0 up. As the rain came down we looked to give the
subs a run out and this again seemed to unsettle the balance of the side
allowing the opponents back into the game. A great strike from 20 yards
from Tutt gave Kennington some hope. Then in the dying minutes a
harsh free kick was taken by Barron which took a unfortunate deflection
of Howe to wrong foot Neat to make it 2-3. The ref blew the whistle
straight after giving us a deserved but sloppy win.
