Match Report - 16 Nov 2013, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Greenways
Borden Village secured a place into the 3rd round of the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup defeating Premier opposition side Greenways by 2 goals to 1. In the very early stages it was the home side that had the better of exchanges with George Latham looking dangerous up front, but it the visitors who looked the more composed and as the game unfolded they began to show their Premier League status with some neat passing and clever movement off the ball putting the Borden’s defence on the back foot for long periods but in turn refusing to allow Greenways any clear cut chances. On the half hour Borden conceded a free kick on the edge of the box whish the visitors converted superbly to take the lead. At half time Borden’s management team of Nick Brown and Aaron Hodges made a change by bringing on Sam Brown another attacking mid field player and within a minute from the restart they scored an equaliser when Steve Collar found Dan Swann who cut in from the right and his shot found the top corner. Two minutes later Sam Brown’s long range effort cannoned off Paul Teague and looped over the keeper to give Borden the lead and in effect turn the game. The goals unsettled Grenways who changed their game and resorted to the long ball much to the delight of centre backs Ben Taylor and Mark Green who won the majority of challenges to see their side win a place in the next round.
